Published on the occasion of the Exhibition at Boo-Hooray, Jacqueline de Jong, Situationist Times 1962-1967 is the first book to document Jacqueline De Jong’s efforts to make “a completely free magazine, based on the most creative of the Situationist ideas.” Started in 1962, The Situationist Times showcased a broad representation of a movement that had already become divided into the political and the aesthetic, with contributions by artists Asger Jorn, Gruppe SPUR, and Pierre Alechinsky, as well as architects, mathematicians and composers.. At the center of this publication was the shockingly young De Jong, an artist who truly embodied the situationist spirit in both attitude and action.
This fully illustrated catalog features previously unpublished photos, artworks, and notes made in the creation of the SI Times, as well as an introduction by Curator Johan Kugelberg, an essay by art-historian Roberto Ohrt and a transcription of De Jong’s graphically handwritten ...

Out of StockThe Nightmare Doesn’t Care is an anthology of poems and drawings by artist, musician, and performer Lindsay Beebe, whose work frames violence, humor, sex and politics within her own unique post-hippy, post-punk outlook. Written in Beebe’s homespun slang vernacular, these raw, earthy poems produce a dream-like fusion of the urban and rural, inspired by experiences ranging from a hung-over job interview to an epiphany in the woods. Marrying the anti-establishment toilet humor of The Fugs’ lyrics with the manic, carnal, and emotional tones of Kathy Acker’s writing, Beebe’s poems embody the legacy of a particular American underground sensibility.

Add to CartCancellation for me is this dynamic act: it is at once violent, an attack, an endgame to a struggle, but at the same time the mega opener. In the place of something cancelled there is only opportunity, only potential… For example, an event is cancelled, you have the night free; tour is cancelled, you have two weks to stay at home and work in your studio and sleep in your own bed and not lose money; exhibition is cancelled, now look at all of this time and material you have floating around… The bottom line is canceling as negating, as a way to remove to create potential, to create space. So after working for a while with the graphice of a literal “CANELLED” stencil image, it was like, how do you cancel that? How does that get further negated?

Add to CartFirst published in 1920 in a mixture of French and German, the Dada Almanac was truly international in scope. With substantial sections from the Swiss and French sections of the movement, it embodies Dada’s failings as well as its successes, its excesses, its seriousness, its idiocy, but above all the anarchic vitality which made it such a vital precondition for so much that followed in the fields of art, literature and general cultural terrorism. The editors of this first English translation have added dozens of other relevant texts, documents, portraits etc. as well as explaining contemporary references and events and providing biographies of the numerous personalities involved.

Out of Stock“Hymn To Pan” was recorded live on July 9, 2010 during a reading/performance by Karl Holmqvist at Badischer Kunstverein. The record features a selection of four texts from his anthology “What’s My Name” (2009).
Karl Holmqvist’s texts represent a writing method that is based on lengthy collages of quotes, song lyrics, lists, and other often pop-cultural or trivial sources. Through cut-ups or repetition, occassional rhyme and mantra-like rhythm, these minimal, geometric linguistic arrangements orbit a nucleus that is at the same time analytical and meditative, and that question the cultural hegemony of rationality and authority in any sort of authorship.
Karl Holmqvist’s work has been exhibited internationally. He took part in Frieze Projects 2010 with Ei Arakawa and was also part of Manifesta 8 in Cartagena, Spain in 2010. In 2011 his work can be seen in the group exhibition “Illuminations”, part of the 54th Venice Biennale.

Losely themed around the forests near the artists birthplaces in Northern Brasil and Western Germany with its gods, myths and Maerchen, we hear stories and chants over Hauschkas trademark piano experiments drenched in dark delay.

Add to CartWith Fulll Firearms by Emily Wardill, Apparent Extent continues its series of film soundtracks by artists who also work in the medium of music.
Fulll Firearms features music from the film of the same title by the British artist Emily Wardill, which celebrates its German debut with an extensive solo exhibition curated by Anja Casser at Badischer Kunstverein, Karlsruhe (January–April 2012). The film is an exploration of the narrative structures of melodrama and the conflict constellations of psychodrama following the real story and popular myths around Sarah Winchesters Mystery House in San Jose, CA. Fulll Firearms is about guilt and ghosts, instability, paranoia and loss of reality. The soundtrack is heavily inspired by the 1970s thriller and horror movie soundtracks by the Italian prog rock band Goblin. And yet Wardill’s music stands on its own.
The artist-composer takes sometimes poetic, sometimes definite, roughly sketched stylistic elements from the Goblin repertoire: church ...

Add to Cart“Vision Vulkano” documents two performances by the Düsseldorf-based artists Angela Fette and Christian Jendreiko, made during their collaborative show at Kunstverein Schwerte “Orakel Konkret” in spring 2011.
The A-side contains “Orakel Konkret”, a live recording of an action commissioned for the opening. Christian Jendreiko plays a vintage Vibraphone and Angela Fette performs as a blindfolded oracle. While a chatty premiere audience is slowly settling down and beginning to listen, Jendreiko starts, using his trademark non-repetitive modal playing method, as Fette turns in circles, predicting obvious, tiny, very concrete future events that will happen in this very room.
The B-side is a playful dialogue between the artists, playing with the terminology of will and imagination in their positive and negative variations. “Yes, I am able to envision this”. “No, I am not able to envision this”. And so on, deliberately changing perspectives ...

Add to CartFinally a new album by Tim and Jonathan – and one of best to date. “Die Hermetische Revolution” is their most rockin’ longplayer since their debut “Die Ahabs” appeared back in autumn 2002. Tim Berresheim is probably the only producer around who dares to combine no-wavish drums and funky basslines with cosmic, almost sun ra-alike keyboards or a polyrhythmic drum machine with field recordings and synth-noodling in the tradition of early schlammpeitziger – and it works extremely well. Jonathan Meese’s stoical, at times hypnotical voice completes the bright and frightening world of pups – a band that could also mark the experimental end of, say, load records. “die hermetische revolution” (“the hermetical revolution”) is an integral concept in berresheim’s art, the lp – as the ultra-thick cover says – was recorded in mid-december 2005, just a few days before his first “hermetical” exhibition. limited edition of 500 copies, white vinyl.

Out of StockIn this poem written on the occasion of his exhibition at Boo-Hooray, Ed Sanders celebrates the technology that made possible his self-published poetry journal, Fuck You / A Magazine for the Arts. The mimeograph, a non-industrial printing machine, and the direct predecessor to the photocopier, was invented in the late 19th century by Thomas Edison, but took 5 decades for it to make its way to the hands of the artists and poets who used it to produce and distribute their “un-publishable” works. In this broadside, printed on the mimeograph-incarnate Risograph Printer, Sanders speaks not only about the Mimeograph machine, but his publishers-in-arms, his band The Fugs, and the revolutionary climate of the 1960’s.

Out of StockBorn out of fantasy and speculation, designed for fun and profit, Miami Beach has been, from its inception, a city of mythical composition. Its famed Art Deco District was designated a Historic District by the National Register of Historic Places in 1979, and today the area is basking in a revival of interest and attention. Nevertheless, while fashion photographers and entrepreneurs, artists, developers, restaurateurs and club owners flock to the neighborhood, it is still struggling, after years of deterioration and neglect, to recreate itself out of its own forgotten glamour. Despite a new palette of confectionery colors and the renovation of numerous buildings, the Art Deco District remains in need of urban cultivation, of a reinterpretation that transcends its original resort identity. Author Laura Cerwinske introduces Tropical Deco: The Architecture and Design of Old Miami Beach by discussing both the area’s past and its future. Throughout her comprehensive exploration of ...

Out of StockIn the mid-nineties, Kerim Seiler paints Zurich city furnishings on found pieces of fiberboard. Chosen workaday design serves as ready-to-paint object and is protocoled in pictograms. Seiler’s paintings dissolve into single elements turning three-dimensional. His work becomes walkable and can be viewed from behind. One stands within the picture, “inside of the outside”, so to speak. Perspicuity and practicability lend Seiler’s work the claim of social sculpture, without depending on fundamental contentions. Through flexibility and humor, the sculptures emit an integrative quality. The work of Kerim Seiler is always on the road and sometimes the guest of nice people.

First working as a draftsman in an architectural firm, he started a career as an illustrator at the age of 30. His work has been published in major american publications such as the New York Times, Time magazine and The New Yorker among others. In the late 90’s he shifted gradually from commissioned work to his own original production which he is now showing in galeries worldwide. Moving back to France in 2006, he is now sharing his time between Paris and Barcelona.
In essence, Weisbecker’s art consist of depicting elements of our daily life untouched by the sometime devastating effects of fashion’s changing mood. These range from tools to appliances, from industrial buildings to
public housing and, in the present case, greenhouses. Greenhouses were created for the purpose of preserving an inner world from the outside world. they haven’t changed much over time. Their purpose ...

Add to CartCall Ampersand Response is a collaborative artwork made of images exchanged via email. Over a period of several months, Dumontier and Lexier sustained an image-based correspondence by sending each other scans of book covers, found objects, drawings and illustrations belonging to each artist’s respective collection. The project is based on the idea that their collections speak of their shared artistic affinities while informing their practices. Two rules dictated their conduct: each image was to function as a “call” seeking a “response” from the other artist, and the dialogue was to end when an image recalling the project’s opening image emerged, thereby constituting a narrative loop. Their conversation gave rise to a bookwork co-edited by Nieves and Artexte.

Kippenberger unplugged!
Martin Kippenberger skipped out on this world after just 44 years – in 1997, the art world’s flamboyant enfant terrible, one of Germany’s most famous painters and best known for his biting provocations and prolific output, died of the consequences of his equally prolific alcohol consumption.
In 1978, Kippenberger moved to Berlin, launched „Kippenbergers Büro“ (together with his future gallerist Gisela Capitain) and became the managing director of Kreuzberg’s seminal venue SO36 where he proceeded to confuse the local punks with acts like Red Krayola, Scritti Politti, Kleenex or Kevin Coyne. Hand-numbered edition of 1000 copies. The packaging consists of a slip lid box with banderole, containing a 80 pages book with photos and texts.
Disputed and celebrated: Hermann Nitsch, Actionist and painter, composer and stage designer. He is one of the most renowned Austrian artists of today and nevertheless still divides the art world as before.
Nitsch belongs beside Günter Brus, Otto Mühl and Rudolf Schwarzkogler to the most important main actors of Viennese Actionism. At the beginning of the sixties he carried out his first ‘Actions’ in Vienna, which involved several trials and three terms of imprisonment. His main work, the “Orgy Mystery Theatre”, inspired by Greek mythology, as well as by Antonin Artaud or Sigmund Freud, has been introducing, building up and carrying on all art forms since this time.
